Kids Help Phone: Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only 24/7 e-mental health service offering free, confidential support in English and French to young people since 1989. It has expanded its services to enable newcomer youth from Afghanistan and Ukraine to get support from professional phone counsellors in Dari, Pashto, Russian, and Ukrainian, via specially trained interpreters. This service is available 24/7 from anywhere in Canada by calling 1-800-668-6868 to chat with a counsellor.
Young people can receive support from Kids Help Phone’s professional counsellors in Plains Cree and Ojibway with an over-the-phone interpreter present. This support is available Monday-Friday, between the hours of 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saskatchewan time, by dialing 1-800-668-6868 and pressing 3. Outside of these hours, professional phone counsellor support is available at any time in English and French.

The NESD Outreach Worker’s main goal is to support student success by promoting healthy lifestyle choices and building authentic partnerships with school personnel, families, agencies and other community members. The Outreach Worker works with individual students, families, and groups to provide supportive listening, information, assistance in basic problem solving, assistance with issues involving teachers or staff members, and referrals to other service providers. We develop awareness of socio-economic life experiences of children and youth and take into account a comprehensive range of supports needed for students to succeed. We facilitate the active engagement of community services to improve the quality of life in the school community for our students and families as well as provide opportunities for families and community members to be active members of the school community. We work closely with school administrators and other staff to ensure a positive school environment and encourage awareness and understanding of diverse populations in the North East School Division.
TMSS Students who want to meet with the Outreach Worker are free to do so; no referral is necessary. The Outreach Worker is available from 8:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday in the main office.
Counselling Consultant - Katie Adair

Support services are available at TMSS for students who are facing serious emotional/social challenges that are affecting their success at school. The Counselling Consultant provides individual and group counselling with students. They also consult with parents/guardians, school staff and school RTI problem solving teams, in regards to how to best support the unique needs of each student. They may also be involved in classroom instruction with health/wellness related topics, as well as school wide initiatives to promote health and safety.
Students, or parents who wish for their child to access counseling services should speak to their teacher, school outreach worker or school administrator and they can assist with a referral. Parental consent is required for students under the age of 16. Counseling is confidential. When appropriate, the Counselling Consultant may refer students and families to other support agencies in the community.

As a member of the TMSS team for student services, we assist teachers in developing classroom programming for students with diverse needs. Personal Program Plans (PPP) and Record of Adaptations(ROA) are developed and data pertaining to both are recorded and managed as student success is tracked. Assisting in implementing and monitoring recommendations made by specialists, providing diagnostic and prescriptive services for students and maintaining communication with all team members, including parents, is an important part of our role. English as Additional Language (EAL) Consultant - Lisa Nystuen

Students whose first language is not English face many challenges when they are placed into mainstream classrooms. The EAL consultant works with teachers to understand how to differentiate lessons so that the content is accessible to this particular group of students. She can also help the teacher to understand why a student may be behaving in a particular way. Perhaps the most valuable role the EAL consultant plays is helping teachers to identify the language needs of these students and help them to plan for specific language objectives in their lessons.

Speech-language pathologists serve individuals, families, and groups from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Speech-language pathologists address typical and atypical communication through assessment and treatment in the following areas: speech sound production, language comprehension and production, resonance/voice, fluency, and swallowing.
Treatment is based on assessment results and will vary depending on the nature and severity of the problem, the age of the individual, and the individual's awareness of the problem. Speech-language pathologists select intervention approaches based on the highest quality of scientific evidence available in order to:
Help individuals with articulation disorders to learn how to say speech sounds correctly
Assist individuals with voice disorders to develop proper control of the vocal and respiratory systems for correct voice production
Assist individuals who stutter to increase their fluency
Help individuals with language disorders to improve language comprehension and production (e.g., grammar, vocabulary, and conversation, and story-telling skills)
Assist individuals with aphasia to improve comprehension of speech and reading and production of spoken and written language
Assist individuals with severe communication disorders with the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems, including speech-generating devices (SGDs)
Help individuals with speech and language disorders and their communication partners understand the disorders to achieve more effective communication in educational, social, and vocational settings
Advise individuals and the community on how to prevent speech and language disorders
